چکیده
Real-time PCR testing for blaKPC, blaNDM, blaVIM, blaIMP, and blaCTX-M was performed on rectal swabs obtained from residents of two long-term acute-care facilities. While blaKPC was detected in 69/102 swabs (67.6%), testing for four other targets increased the positivity rate for a broad-spectrum β-lactamase to 73.5% (McNemar's P = 0.03).

Lytic Activity of Isolated Phage from Milk Against Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Escherichia coli
Background and purpose: Escherichia coli (E.coli) is the most common cause of urinary tract infection. The treatment strategy has been hampered by the emergence of broad-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing E.coli and its resistance to most antibiotics. Bacteriophages are suggested as an alternative treatment option. This study aimed at evaluating the lytic activity of isolated phage from unpaste...
متن کاملPrevalence of Multiple Drug Resistant Clinical Isolates of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Producing Enterobacteriaceae in Southeast Iran
Background: Multidrug resistance and production of extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) by enteric gram-negative rods in hospitals and community continue to be worsened. We aimed to characterize the multidrug resistance and determine the prevalence of ESBL production by clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae in southeast Iran. Methods: Gram-negative bacteria isolated from clinical samples of...
متن کاملEvaluation of the prevalence of broad-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and carbapenemase genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae strains isolated from burn wounds in patients referred to Shahid Motahari Hospital in Tehran
Background: Klebsiella species are common causes of nosocomial, ulcers, blood and urinary tract infections, and also acquired pneumonia from the hospital and various intra-abdominal infections. Bacterial resistance mechanisms against antibiotics are different, but one of these resistance mechanisms, which is very problematic, is the production of β-lactamase enzymes in bacteria. The aim of this...
متن کاملEuropean Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption (ESAC): outpatient penicillin use in Europe.
BACKGROUND Data on outpatient penicillin use in Europe were collected from 25 countries within the ESAC project, funded by DG SANCO of the European Commission, using the WHO ATC/DDD methodology. METHODS For the period 1997-2003, data on outpatient use of systemic penicillins aggregated at the level of the active substance were collected and expressed in DDD (WHO, version 2004) per 1000 inhabi...
متن کاملPrevalence of Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase in Gram Negative Bacteria Isolated from Kermanshah Medical Centers: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Background and Aim: Nosocomial infections caused by gram-negative bacteria are among the most important health-threatening challenges of the current century, particularly following the emergence and spreading of antibiotic-resistance strains. Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), one of the most important antibiotic resistance mechanisms, is spreading worldwide. Surveillance and gathering da...
